Unfortunately I wasn't able to be present on Monday for our lectures so I resorted to facebook and videos our digi coaches kindly have filmed. However the video of our first lecture by Mercy Maina looked like it was filmed with a potato so I was only able to listen it. It seemed like she was trying to tell about google analytics so I tried to be productive and see myself what's the main purpose of it. I reeled through a 30min video but I'll leave a quick recap of what I learned.
Basically you just have to insert a line code to your website and you can start receiving all kinds of data from your website/blog/whatever. Super easy and simple but it's important to know what to do with the data. With google analytics and various guides you can learn to use the data to your advantage and understand customer's behaviour. For example if you are running a online shop then you can see what the customer's tend to view on your website and use the knowledge to improve other not so popular features.
The second lecture of Monday was held by Vesa Robertsson. As a CEO of Linked by Music, a social media for musicians, he was talking about twitter and how to use it. As I've had twitter account for over 7 years now I'm quite familiar with it but not for marketing purposes like he does, so it was interesting to listen to. Twitter is my most used social media and I like it particularly because you can follow anyone and anything you're interested in.
I checked the linked by music's twitter account and I got the impression that it is kind of a hub where they retweet their followers' music but also do a bit of marketing of their upcoming platform at the same time. I have to agree that following pretty much everyone that could be interested in their product is working for them. Personally I'm not a fan of those accounts that are just trying to reap all the followers they can get. But as twitter is easy and free to use for different companies to market their products they are in the right place!
Thursday arrived and it was time for teams to present their work in shark tank for the 3 judges from SSM. I was confident that we had done good job but after seeing other teams' work I have to say that there were really good ideas although I'm still satisfied with our work. I have to say two comments about the presentations: - I wasn't even nervous but it is so difficult sometimes but find the right words in English. Finnish would have been so much easier.
- Some teams should keep it more short and simple. I'm sure the people from SSM and other teams too wanna hear the results and not the whole lifestory.
Everything went well however and I'm looking forward to next week.
