Monday is the day between Sunday and Tuesday and it's also the day when we have some digital course lectures. This week Jari Laine was giving a presentation about everything that is happening in digital world. The presentation had more engineering than business vibes but that's okay I liked it! Him speaking was easy to follow and understand even when he jumped from one topic to another. He talked a variety of things from social media to internet of things. Interesting and educating stuff.
Only thing that was bothering me with the presentation was how he was understating the importance of privacy. Like Niemi said google probably knows more about me than my parents and for him it was okay that companies gather massive amount of information about us and basically don't respect our privacy. Companies gather information and then sell it for marketers. While it is true that mostly it is harmless and nobody cares that our information is stored, we don't know how things are like in five years. As the saying goes "Give him an inch and he'll take a yard." That's what really worries me and with IoT getting more common privacy and security should be taken more seriously by everyone.
Second guest was Marcin Arcisz and it was a light and not so educating lecture compared to the previous but it was still interesting and nice. Seems like his company Academic work do important work and also help young prospects and employers find each other.
On Thursday there was lecturing a web page designer working with interfaces and usability. I hope his work with webpages is better than his powerpoints. His presentation had so many bulletins per slide and not that visual and it was really difficult to follow when he was talking with no breaks. At least I managed to learn that responsive design uses design blocks. Basically those blocks helps usability when website is viewed on both; mobile devices and normal PC screen. After lunch we had workshop by digi coach Viliina. We had to do some silly things to become more confident performers. I had to leave midway through because I had HOPS-discussion with another teacher so I failed the training and I don't feel more confident than before. Next week we're going to finalize our course projects so we're ready to show them to others. Not much school left before summer break!
